Lady in a Grand Hall

August 22, 2011

I often wonder where HDR has a place or even if it has a place in wedding photography. Wedding world, a woman’s world so soft and delicate…does it have room for something so loud, detailed and dynamic? The answer: yes. But those shots are not many and must be carefully crafted in thought, camera set-up and post process. In the end, Caroline is stunning…don’t you think?

High Dynamic Church

This is St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Louisville, KY. I find that HDR really opens up a space and adds that extra “WOW!” It turns a photo into a piece of fine art.

Kermie, the Green Xterra

August 12, 2011

I had a Jeep Liberty named Lucy for 7.5 years. In June, I was hit by an SUV and she was totaled. I loved that Jeep. There really isn’t a replacement for a Jeep, especially since the new Liberty body is horrible ugly! The next best thing…my new green Xterra. It has to be eccentric, different…loud. I’m an artist- it’s my nature. So…meet Kermie:)

Coffee Houses

January 2, 2011

Caribou in the afternoon

Coffee houses are some of the greatest places on earth. Warm, cozy, full of culture; a place to see art, meet friends, hear jazz and get a good cup of something exotic. A coffee break is a good excuse to read a book, people watch or meet a cute date. This photo here is Caribou Coffee. I enjoy it for the atmosphere. It reminds me of a cabin in the woods sans the pine and woodsmoke. Wouldn’t you just love to snuggle up next to the fireplace in a fuzzy blanket and glance outside at mounds of snow on flocked evergreens? I can feel the cold rush under the door. I can see the blue snow under the setting sun. Bring me that cup of Joe…

Lynn’s Paradise Cafe: A Happier Way to Dine; Louisville Kentucky Photography

December 21, 2010

Yes, that’s a photograph. All these are photographs. If you’ve never seen my work or read my blog I create a lot of High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos. I really like HDR for the range in exposure you get and the creative way they can be processed. I want to be wowed! That’s why this kind of photography is the only kind I found suitable to portray Lynn’s Paradise Cafe in Louisville, KY. It’s like a circus for your eyes! Lots of bright colors, one-of-a-kind decorations and food you can’t get at a chain. My favorite has to be the mannequin legs, all with a different pair of crazy pants like only your grandma can get away with wearing, jutting out from the walls high above each booth. Or maybe it’s the cups of tiny plastic animals or crayons on top of each table. All I know is that it’s not what you expect when you get there, there’s no place like it and everyone has to go there once. It’s impossible to leave without a smile on your face. Go there to take pictures. Go there to eat pancakes filled with cinnamon granola pancakes at 3:00 in the afternoon. It’s an artist’s paradise. It’s a grow-ups’ retreat from serious. It’s…Lynn’s, a happy place:)

Main & Maple: Good Atmosphere, Good Coffee

November 24, 2010

Where can you go to get away for a bit? A good book is great start but how about some people watching, a warm atmosphere, good grub and good, strong coffee? Yup. If you’ve never been, you MUST try Main & Maple Coffee House and Cafe. It reminds me of one of my favorite coffee joints in Nashville’s Hillsboro Village, Fido’s. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights with open mic on Thursday can be a great treat…or just an interesting evening:) You know how that goes:) This place not only has good coffee and atmosphere but great food too! Most coffee places you might get olive nut/ chicken salad sandwich beyond your regular cookie or brownie. You can get pizza, wraps (the hummas is my weakness), salads, etc. I don’t know the menu that well b/c I can’t seem to NOT get the greek wrap- the hummas is that good! Word to the wise: don’t try the cinnamon roll! You’ll never look back…or be able to go there w/o ordering one warmed up!!!  So make a special trip or plan a date to downtown Nicholasville and try this great place!

Christmas Lights: Gabe Gibitz

November 20, 2010

Music and Christmas. Christmas and Music. They’re like two peas in a pod. What other time of year, holiday or event has so many songs associated with it? Gabe Gibitz, who happens to be my talented brother-in-law, had a vision for his Christmas album. He told me the concept, we experimented and BOOM! Look what happened? I beautiful, snowy frosty-varnished mix of images for his album art. The photos you see above and below are HDR images, tone mapped and tweaked to fit his style and album perfect. Check out his music at his site for a merry Christmas mix!

Lexington in HDR

September 27, 2010

Contrast. Pop. Color. Wow. That’s what I love about HDR photography. I don’t really find HDR suitable for a lot of wedding/ portrait photography but it can have its place on such occasion. Instead it sets a mood on architecture and photojournalistic shots. I think it’s lovely for story telling. It has such an illustration feel and I adore it. So here’s a little Lexington in HDR.
